Yodha star Yash Kapadia calls Dharma Productions and Yash Raj Films ‘EGOISTIC;’ slams them for paying actor less

The Yoddha actor Vikram Kapadia, also known for his roles in Made in Heaven and Kapoor and Sons, has made allegations against Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films, accusing them of underpaying actors. Both production houses are among the most prominent in Hindi cinema, celebrated for their lavish big-budget films. However, Kapadia has collaborated with both entities, has labelled them as egotistical and claimed they offer lower fees compared to others in the industry.

Yash Kapadia slams Dharma Productions & Yash Raj Films

In a recent interview with Bollywood Now, Yash Kapadia shared his insights on the compensation practices of these major studios, stating, “Yash Raj Films and Dharma Productions have this ego that we are Yash Raj and Dharma so we will pay you a little less but you should be happy because we are paying you.”

He further emphasized that, despite the lower pay, there is never a delay in receiving remuneration. “Yash Raj compensated me fairly as a writer, but there’s always that sentiment of ‘we are Yash Raj.’ You’re getting a role, they’re providing you with an opportunity. So, while the value may be a bit diminished, payment is prompt,” he clarified.

In previous remarks, Karan Johar, who leads Dharma Productions, addressed the rising costs associated with actors, stating in an interview with Screen Magazine, “The entourage costs are the least of our concerns. It’s the primary remuneration of the actors that is crucial. All actors need to understand the current landscape of our films and the challenges involved in producing motion pictures of any scale.”

Adar Poonawala acquires 50% of Dharma Productions

In separate news, Aadar Poonawala of the Serum Institute recently acquired a 50% stake in Dharma Productions through a ₹1,000 crore investment. Following this development, Poonawala and Karan Johar showcased their camaraderie by attending Manish Malhotra’s Diwali celebration together.
